Censusing and Monitoring the Species and Habitats of Coastal Maine

Historic Collections

In the early to mid 1900s, William Procter inventoried the marine invertebrates of Frenchman Bay and the insects of Mount Desert Island. His extensive collections are held in the museum archives at Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island. Since 2005, we have collaborated with Acadia National Park to restore the marine collection and fully catalog both the marine invertebrate and insect collections. This work was completed by late 2008. A catalog of the marine specimens was prepared and is available for download on the publications page. A catalog of the insect specimens is being prepared.
