Join Tom Wessels (renowned ecologist and author of many books including Reading the Forested Landscape) on a guided walk of the Little Long Pond Preserve carriage roads and help raise funds for the Seaweeds of Maine field guide project. You will learn about the natural history of the area and how to interpret natural features and what they tell us about the past.
Tom Wessels is a well known, local author and ecologist. He is professor emeritus at Antioch University where he founded their master’s degree program in Conservation Biology. He is best known for his work with forests, but also has strong interests in desert, arctic, and alpine ecosystems. Tom has published six books, with his best known being Reading the Forested Landscape: A Natural History of New England. He has conducted workshops on ecology and natural history throughout the country for over 3 decades. This workshop is a fundraiser! All proceeds will support the Seaweeds of Maine project which will promote seaweed appreciation and stewardship by collecting baseline seaweed data and creating a user-friendly, photographic field guide to Maine seaweeds. Tom is conducting two identical walks on Saturday the 24th of June. One is from 2 – 4 pm and the other is from 4:30 – 6:30 pm. Please sign up for one OR the other. There are 20 spots available on each walk.
