Maine Bird Atlas 2018-2022 is the most complete and comprehensive overview of bird distribution and change in Maine. It builds on the work of the first Atlas (Atlas of Breeding Birds in Maine 1978-1983) providing a snapshot of bird populations and distribution during the 5-year study period, and also showing how things have changed for Maine birds in the 40 years since the first Atlas. the Maine Bird Atlas stands as a long-term scientific resource that will inform wildlife management, conservation planning, research, and public education for decades to come.
Maine Bird Atlas 2018-2022 includes conservation status information, maps showing where each species breeds and winters, where they are most and least abundant, and where abundance has changed. The species accounts synthesis the findings to explain the patterns and highlight the major issues facing each bird species in Maine.
The Atlas contains:

- The synthesis of 2.6 million bird observations made by 6,551 volunteers completing over 25,000 square miles of survey blocks across the state over 5 years.
- 315 bird species accounts written by 74 contributing authors.
- 824 maps showing breeding and wintering evidence, species occupancy and density, and changes since the first Maine Bird Atlas.
- Nesting phenology graphs.
- Maine Conservation status.
- Hundreds of color photos.
